08/07:
We'll be mixing our 6th full-length album at Type Foundry in Sept.
If all goes well we hope to have it out by the end of the year. Title
is still TBD.
In October we'll be hitting the road with our friends "GIANT MIRRORS".
Tour Dates will be posted soon.
In the meantime, we're playing a few shows up in Washington and here around
P-Town, so check the "LIVE" link for details.
05/07:
Sorry it's been so long since our last report. Been traveling New Zealand.
We just finished laying down basic tracks to our forthcomming album. We're
recording at Type Foundry
with John Askew (Tracker) producing and engineering. We'll keep you posted
on the progress and hope to have it out by the end of '07.
We also got the opportunity to play a live webcast on CROWCHOW
RADIO . It was a blast and the Pod Cast link should be available shortly.
Hats off to "THE BEST NEST ON THE WEB"
10/06:
We're happy to announce new flutter addition Ryan Matheson (Rally Boy,
BosaNova 2600, KindOfLikeSpitting) to the band.
Ryan has replaced Amy Turner-Overdrive, who has sinced moved
to Nashville, TN. We wish her the best!
Matheson's first show will be on Saturday, Oct. 21st at Kelly's Olympian
in Portland. Please come out and help welcome him to the Flutz.

In other news, we have booked studio time at Audible Alchemy to finally
record a new album. We're set to start recording in September and, if
all goes well, we hope to have the album in stores early next year.
04/06:
The following is an email exchange between a concerned W&F fan regarding
our change in sound and newest direction. I am posting this, because it
is not the first time we have been asked this question...
The Subject heading: "WHY THIS CHANGE?"
From Fan:
Hello,
today I´ve listen to new songs on Myspace. Why this change? I´ve
got your last three albums and these are some of the best I ever heart
- I think it´s ingenious art rock. And now I must listen to songs
of a ordinary mainstream sound. Is this your future sound? What kind of
music will be on your next release?
Regards,
Michael (from Germany)
Good question: "Why this change?"
Our Response:
Well, lets just say in our 10 year history, we've actually always been
changing. Our first album "Guilty Pleasures" sounds nothing
like our second album "In a Darkroom" and I think the same for
the 3rd and 4th release. But really, the fact is, I'm the only member
who's been in the band since the first album 10 years ago. We've had so
many changes in the past few years. Mainly, two of our members quit the
band during the recording of "NAMES" to pursue their own projects
(Antlerand / Moon Pony). We spent so much time trying to finish a record
that began with 5 people and ended with 3, that we burnt out on it. We
found a new drummer and began the slow process of reworking old songs
as well as writing new material. In the process, Amy started playing bass
and put down the cello because it was too hard to tour with.
So our sound began to take yet another direction. Within a year, we decided
our drummer wasn't working out, so then we were down to a trio without
a drummer. We spent about another year auditioning drummers, but no one
seemed to work out.
So Jack, who had originally been our bass player and then switched to
guitar, decided he'd take a try at playing the drums.
Remember it had been well over a year since the release of "NAMES"
and by that time we were so unhappy with the way the album turned out
and all the changes that happened to the band, that we decided to make
music that we could have fun with again.
Jack's "bombastic" drumming style, along with Amy's "post-punk"
bass lines, shed a new light on our sound. We started having fun playing
shows again. In effect, the music became more up-tempo and a lot less
serious. I guess I got tired of taking it so seriously. I'm 36, Jack's
43, Amy's 33... I think age has something to do with it too. "It's
time to have more fun", was the only way we could make this band
work. Otherwise we probably would have ended it 2 years ago.
Personally, I couldn't be more happy with music right now. Yes, I agree
we have changed a lot over the years, but underneath it all is really
the same Song Writer and a still a similar theme of anguish, political
anger, and of course you cant leave out our biggest influence: "Sonic
Youth".
Should we have changed the band name to something different? Maybe so,
but we all loved the name Wow & Flutter so much that it was too hard
to change it. Also the name "Wow & Flutter" comes from a
recording term. It has to do with Tape playback. The "Wow" means
to speed up, "Flutter" is to slow down. So, in a sense, we've
"Wow & Fluttered" for the past 10 years.
Sorry for the long response, but we've gotten a lot
of feedback about our new direction. Some good, some not so good. I just
wanted to clarify and vent a little.
Thanks for your feedback.
I hope if we ever tour Germany you'll still come out to see us and we
could meet in person.
Thanks,
Cord
